Wheel Alignment
There are many problems we may face during driving such in
motor, suspension, brakes, light, battery or wheel alignment and others. It is
very important to know what your car need is, so that you can drive safely.
First how can you know that your car needs this?
There are many Signs you can feel it while driving, especially at high
speed:
1- Your car deflections to left or right as a result of
non-parallel tires vertically or horizontally, and called the lack of
discipline of corners.
2- You may feel the vibrations in driving wheel at high
speed so your car needs Balancing.
3- When you hit a pothole you may hear noise from wheel(s).
4- Erosion of Tires inside or outside.
Wheels Angles:
The term "wheel alignment" is involving two
main measurements.
1) Primary:
- Caster: It is the Inclination of the axis of steering wheel for vertical
level, backward or forward.
- Camber: It is the inclination angle of the wheel for vertical level, about the
axis of the wheel of accidental.
- Toe: It is the inclination angle of the wheel for vertical level, about the
vertical axis of the wheel or The distance comparison between the leading edge
and trailing edge of the front tires.
2)Secondary:(S)
1- S A I (Steering Axis Inclination)
(left & right). The angle between true vertical and a line drawn between the
steering pivots.
2- Included angle (left & right). The sum of the (S A I) and the camber.
3- Toe
out on turns (left & right). The amount of toe-out present in turns.
4- Maximum
Turns (left & right).
5- Track
width difference.
6- Toe curve change (left & right).
7- Wheelbase
difference.
8- Front
ride height (left & right).
9- Rear
ride height (left & right).
10- Frame
angle.
11- Setback
(front & rear).
There are standards
for these measurements are used by technicians as targets of adjustment. So you
must get close to the right measurement. We will take them in detailed later.
Causes of angles misalignment of the wheels:
There are many reasons can make misalignment in car
wheel(s). Some of them are Caused by Neglecting small signs, or passing long
time with hard working without rest. Or maybe:
1- Non equal erosion to the internal or external half of the
wheel and this reduces tire's lifetime.
2- Passing the hard curves on highways at high speed.
3- The status of the road In terms of the decline in the
right or left as the car will be loaded on one side this effect on the wheel
angles.
4- The Pressure inside tires is variable from one tire to
another this also makes the car load on one or two wheels.
5- The status of tires in terms of size, equality and
Quality.
6- The car subjected to an earlier incident and led to the
disruption of chassis size in this case it’s very difficult to fix these
issues.
What happen if You did not fix this problem?
1-
Your life will be on the line cause at high speed this problem becomes very
dangerous.
2-
Fuel consumption will increase.
3
- Tires and suspensions lifetime will reduce.
4-
Weakness in vehicle stability.
Steps to prevent wheel
misalignment:
1- Go immediately to check for wheels balance and stability
as soon as you see any sign shown.
2- Prevent passing curves quickly.
3- Prevent passing holes and pothole with high speed.
4- Regular Detection on car systems protects you from sudden
flaws.
5- Always check the tire status.

My wheels have be misaligned since I hurt a curb a while back. I want to do it myself because shops around here are so expensive, but unfortunately I may have to take it in because I just don't have the tools to do it myself. I'm going to have to payquite a bit for them to be realigned, but the trouble they cause me when I'm driving is just too dangerous to ignore.

DeleteI ran into a curb after trying to stop at a light when the roads were really bad from all the rain. Ever since there has been a little drifting to the right. Should I get wheel alignment checked? Is this the problem?

Hi Stacey.I think so but first check car wheels on straight road at moderate speed if it still drifting to the right then check tires state and see where is the erosion of the tire to know what caused this drifting then go and make alignment.
DeleteI wish this is useful for you.
I think this is among the most vital information for me and I am glad reading your article related to the Wheel alignment systems. But want to remark on few common things, The website taste is ideal, the articles is in reality great.

ReplyDeleteIf my car is starting to pull a different direction when I am driving, does this mean that my tires aren't aligned? I didn't notice for a long time, but I am constantly having to turn the wheel slightly to the left when I am driving straight. If I don't get this fixed, will I have serious damage to the car or axles?

I like the valuable info you provide in your blog about Wheel alignment systems. I’ll bookmark your blog and check again here frequently. I am quite certain I will learn lots of new stuff right here! Good luck for the next!
ReplyDeleteI think that I need to take my car in to have the alignment checked. I hit a pothole the other day, and I've noticed that the handling doesn't feel the same now. I'd rather spend the time and money to get it looked at and fixed now, than wait for it to cause more damage down the road.

It's the worst when you hit a pothole! I live in a place with a terrible pothole problem. It can really do a number on your alignment. There's a good chance you'll need to get your car realigned. http://www.eastcarolinaautos.com/Car_Maintenance_and_Repairs_Indian_Trail_NC.html
DeleteI am going to need a wheel alignment pretty soon. My car keeps shifting everywhere I go. I'm not sure how much is going to cost. http://www.antam.com.au/wheel-alignment-toowoomba/
ReplyDeleteI had no idea that so much went into making sure the vehicle goes straight. I thought that was just something that automatically came. Apparently I need to brush up on my vehicle maintenance knowledge. Really liked the article!

I have done a wheel alingment twice with this guy, who did it on those special machines and with the computer software. The first one he did totally wrong and my car was still pull to the right. http://caddyauto.com/
ReplyDeleteI have always been curious about wheel alignments and why it is so important to get it done. This blog was super helpful and helped me answer my questions and now I understand why every time I go to the shop they ask if I want one. So now that I know I am more likely to say yes. http://www.eastcarolinaautos.com/Car_Maintenance_and_Repairs_Indian_Trail_NC.html
ReplyDeleteI think it's important to get alignments done as often as they are necessary. I know that I would hate to be trying to drive without having my wheels properly aligned. This is definitely something that could be a significantly big problem if people don't take care of it the right way. I hope people get help when these issues come up.
